Waynesville, JN Hyatt, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
A native of Haywood County he was a son of the late William Weaver and Winnie Long Hyatt; in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. JN proudly served his country in the Navy and retired from AT&T with 38 years of service. He was a dedicated husband, father, granddad and friend. Never wanting to be idle, JN was eager to help wherever needed. Whether it was making sure the church was warm first thing on Sunday morning, helping his son in the tobacco fields, or mowing his lawn; JN simply loved to work. A faithful member of 66 years to Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church, JN taught the adult Sunday School Class, was on the original church Building Committee, and also served as the Chairman for the Counsel of Ministries. He was a Patriarch of the Hyatt family and a cornerstone not only to his church, but his community also.
JN is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy M. Hyatt; daughter, Kimra Hyatt McCall (Tim), of Waynesville; three sons, Gary Hyatt (Nicki), of Bakersville, Danny Hyatt (Elaine), of Waynesville and Keith Hyatt (Melissa), of Canton; sister, Doris Jamison (George), of Covington, Virginia; eleven grandchildren, Jessica, Matthew, Neil, Nathan, Amanda, Jacob, Rachel, Cayley, Alexa, Daniel and Megan; and twelve great-grandchildren.
