J. Lamar York
Waynesville, Julian Lamar York, age 82, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
A native of Haywood County, he was a son to the late D.D. and Ethel Kuykendall York. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Earlene Brown York, who died in 1998; brother, Lenoir York; three sisters, Edith Teague, Dorothy Calhoun and Delores Shamsedin. Lamar was employed with the Haywood County School Systems as a teacher for 15 years and an accountant with Thomas J. Sheehan and Associates for 20 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. Lamar enjoyed reading, watching movies and working with his hands and his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Lamar is survived by a daughter, Erika Ray (Wayne), of Winston Salem; two sons, Barry York, of Waynesville and Brandon York (Shelli), of High Point; sister, Norma Stock; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Eugene Ridley officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
