Jesse Tyson, Sr.

Waynesville, Jesse Hardy Tyson, Sr., age 85, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at MedWest Haywood. A native of Pitt County, he was a former resident of Takoma Park, Maryland and Wytheville, Virginia. He was the son of the late Elbert Moye and Nannie Ruberta Flannagan Tyson and was also preceded in death by five brothers. He graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, received his Master's Degree in Zoology in 1956, and his Pharmacy degree in 1969. Jesse was employed as a pharmacist for Seventh-day Adventist Hospitals and locally at the Sylva Revco Drug Store. He was an avid reader, gardener, and bird watcher. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Waynesville. He is survived by his wife of more than 58 years, Gloria Tyson; daughter, Michelle Tyson of Canton; son, Hardy Tyson, Jr. and his wife, Lori, of Ridgecrest, California; a sister, Olive Fulfer; three grandchildren, Brittany and Kira Tyson and Bettina Cremer; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Waynesville where he was an elder.
