Jefferson City, Tennessee, Jerald David Swanger, Sr., age 83, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Jefferson City Health and Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late John Edward and Ocie Trantham Swanger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dale Lewis Swanger, who died in 2014; and a sister, Vickie Swanger Collins, who died in 1969. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed playing acoustic guitar.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Valentine Swanger; daughter, Danette Swanger Seale, and her husband, Danny, all of Jefferson City, Tennessee; son, Jerald David Swanger, Jr., and his wife, Angela, of Alamance County, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Lavone Swanger, of Waynesville; sister, Gloria Jenkins, and her husband, Ed, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; brother, Lewis Swanger, of Waynesville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Kevin Valentine officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until service time at the funeral home.

The care of Mr. Swanger has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
