Jeannetta Jackson

Waynesville

Waynesville, Jeannetta Kemp Jackson, 80, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at her home.

A native of Wilson County, she was the daughter of the late John and Minnie Mae Reeves Kemp. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie Jackson, Sr., who died in 2009; and her cousin, Thaddeus Howell.

Jeannetta loved her grandkids dearly.  Being a social butterfly, she was able to make others smile, as she always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed decorating her home with numerous decorative roosters.  Jeannetta was a very active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church that she loved deeply.

Jeannetta is survived by her son, Willie Jackson, Jr. and his wife, Arnicia, of Waynesville; three daughters, Tonya Smith and her husband, Chuck, of Greensboro, Portia Thornton of Raleigh, and Sherika Alston and her husband, Wallace, of Charlotte; two honorary daughters, Ethel Scruggs and her husband, Tommy, of Waynesville, and Gwendolyn Moore and her husband, Edward, of Waynesville; two cousins that were like sisters, Jamesena Watkins and her husband, Marvin, of Greensboro, and Patricia Appling of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Terrence Smith and his wife, Brooklyn, DaShawn Smith and his wife, Shequilla, Joshua Jackson, Christopher Thornton II and Cierra Jackson; nieces and nephews; several extended family members; and special friend, Kathleen McDonough.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home, with Elder Roderick Sanders and Pastor Mark T. Gibson officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.  Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.

Due to Covid-19, the family has requested that masks be worn by those in attendance.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Givens Great Laurels, Mount Olive Baptist Church, Haywood Hospice and Haywood Regional Medical Center Fourth Floor.
