JAY W. "WIMP" LEONARD

Clyde-Jay W. "Wimp" Leonard, age 71,died Friday, October 11, 2002, at the Canton Health Care Center.

He was a native of Washington County, Tennessee, and was the son of the late Samuel and Hesbia Bays Leonard. He was preceded in death by four sisters and four half sisters. He was a 10-year employee of Champion International as a roll grinder. He was a member of Clyde First Baptist Church and Clyde Masonic Lodge #453. He was a ham radio operator, an avid fisherman and hunter, and was also an RA leader at his church. He served in the National Guard and Army Reserves.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jo Ann Haynes Leonard of Canton; one daughter, Renee Stamey and her husband, Michael E., of Waynesville; two sisters, Norma Feagin of Pittsburgh, Kansas, and Violet Keyees of Maryville, Tennessee; four brothers, Trenton Leonard of Bristol, Tennessee, Sam Leonard of Houston, Alaska, Bill Leonard of Oakland, Mississippi, and Don Leonard of Chipley, Florida; and two grandchildren, Chris Stamey of Waynesville and Stephanie Hopfinger and her husband, Jason, of Cullowhee.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 14, 2002 at the chapel of Wells Funeral Homes in Canton with the Reverend W. O. Henson officiating. Burial will be at Haynes Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
