Javena Cable

Javena “Venie” Cable, loving mother, wife, daughter, and devoted Christian passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021, following a short illness.  She was 95 years of age.

Born in Leicester, NC on March 18, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Amy Austin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Cable in 2009 and son, Ray in 1950.

A graduate of Brevard High School, she married Charles M. Cable in 1943.  The heart and soul of her immediate family, “Venie” was also a much-loved friend to neighbors and extended family. A bright star of love, compassion, encouragement, wisdom, and laughter. She was an accomplished amateur veterinarian to innumerable family pets and an inveterate rescuer of wild animals. She loved traveling, reading, and working puzzles and was always adept at conjuring up improbable ingenious repairs of injured hearts and broken appliances. She was a skillful weaver of baskets, a quilter, and a tailor of school clothes. Many people had a better day after just talking with her.

She is survived by four children; Sandra Hanes, Dianne Greene (Michael), Grover Cable (Nancy) and Ed Cable; five grandchildren, Ian Cable, Chris Cable, Andrew Cable, Anna Cable, and Kevin Cable.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Wells Funeral Home, 3715 Asheville Highway, Canton, NC.
