James Surrett

On September 18, 2018, James (Herbie) William Surrett, walked thru Heaven's gates into the arms of his Savior. Herbie was born to the Late Shirley Barnes Surrett and the Late Tom Surrett on October 17,1962 in Asheville, NC and captured the hearts of all who knew him for the next 55 years. Growing up Herbie defied medical statistics and was a healthy little boy who loved school. For 16 years he was present in school every day and graduated in 1983 from Lucy B Herring with perfect attendance.

Herbie was proceeded in death by maternal grandparents Homer & Helen Barnes and paternal grandmother, Sally Boyd.

Herbie is survived by his Mommy and Daddy, Tammy & Doyle Swafford of the home, Brothers Michael (Linda) Surrett and Chris (Ashley) Yarborough of Candler, Ashley (Angel) Smith of Asheville, Robert Phillips, Nathan Swafford, Daniel (Shay) Swafford, and Brandon Swafford, of the home. Sisters Shelia (Dean) Elkins and Donna Seay, both of Candler.

In addition he is survived by his Nephews, Ray (Jenn) Grooms of Candler, and Aairon, Bryson, & Harley Smith of Asheville; Great Niece and Nephews Sebastian, Mya, & Kaiden Grooms; Nana and Grandpop, Kathy and Randy Ollis; Grandma and Grandpa, Harley & Evelyn Swafford; Aunts Linda Branam & Carla (John) Matthews; Uncles Dewayne Smith, Greg (Christi) Ollis & Jeremiah Ollis; Cousins Kaitlyn, Bradlee, Bradden, Prestyn, & Avary Jones, Maddason Matthews, Jacob, Jared, & Jackson Smith, Gabrielle Matthews, all of Candler; and many more aunts, uncles, & cousins.

Herbie's life was filled with a large family who inspired him to reach goals that typically is not possible with Down's Syndrome. For more than 10 years he enjoyed carrying out groceries for customers at the family business, Grocery Depot. He was an avid fan of WWF wrestling, Bonanza and General Hospital. The memories we all hold with Herbie are priceless.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 29th at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler.
