James B. Michales, known by family and friends as JB, passed away the way he wanted, at his home, in his sleep, on Saturday, December 11, 2021, surrounded by family.

JB was preceded in death by his parents, James William and Bonita Case Michales, sister Norma Michales and son Bobby Michales.

He is survived by his children Trish Tarte (known to family by her nickname J.J.) and her husband Mark, Jenna Forrester (known to family by her nickname Merle), Jimmy Michales and Angel Newman.  Also, sisters Nyoka Limeberry and Pat Taylor (Robert), and brother Tommy Michales.

JB leaves behind 13 grandchildren: Christian, Matthew, Taylor, Shayne, Marie, Alec, Jake, Logan, Anna, Michael, Dawn, Todd and Sabrina.  Also 3 great grandchildren who loved “Papaw” more than anything, and special friend of the family, Arun Sebastian.

JB was born in Asheville and grew up in Asheville and Dearborn Michigan.

He was a Mechanical Superintendent for Daniels Construction Company where he moved all over the Southeastern United States to keep jobs running on track and smoothly.  After retirement, not one to not have anything to do, he went back to work as a driver for patient care facilities where he loved being able to socialize with all of the patients, staff, and doctors office staffs across the community, until he finally had to truly retire in 2018.  In his younger years, JB loved Ginseng hunting in the mountains with his uncles and son, playing poker with his family, collecting antique cars, having restored several 1965 Mustangs.  One of which was a prized possession that won many car show titles.  In his later years, JB’s most prized title was “Papaw”.  His grandchildren and great grandchildren, or as he called them, “Papaw’s babies”, have lost the rock of the family.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to in-home hospice & CarePartners with a special thanks to his nurses: DeAnna and Cricket, social worker: Maureen, and Chaplain: Martha Ann.  Trish and Jenna also want to thank their Mom for caring for JB in his final days.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
