Obituary

Jack E. Lowdermilk, passed away on March 8, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on June 8, 1938, to the late John and Dora Stines Lowdermilk. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Wanda Buff and Jeanette Higgins; and brother, Donald Lowdermilk. Jack lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family and friends.

Jack devoted 31 years of his career to Dayco before retiring. Even after retirement, his work ethic remained strong as he continued to contribute to his community by working at Ingles and then Sav-Mor. His steadfast commitment to his profession was matched only by his dedication to his family.

A proud veteran, Jack served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, exemplifying the bravery and sacrifice he valued so deeply. His experiences shaped him into a man of principle, grounded in the values of service and integrity.

Education was also important to Jack; he graduated from Glen Alpine High School in Morganton, NC in 1956 and from Haywood Community College, a testament to his belief in lifelong learning and personal growth. He used this knowledge and his talents in many activities, particularly as a member of Jonathan Valley Baptist Church, where he found both solace and fellowship.

Jack had a passion for singing that brought joy to himself and others. His love for nature shone through his gardening endeavors, especially in cultivating stunning Dahlias. These hobbies were a reflection of his vibrant spirit and love for life, traits that endeared him to many.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Mary Ellen Green Lowdermilk; his daughter, Deanna Hughes (David); step-daughter, Marty Buchanan; sons, Chris Lowdermilk (Tammy), Kent Lowdermilk (Cathy), and Steve Lowdermilk (Amy); step-sons, Maurice Chambers, Tim Chambers (Angie), and Bryan Chambers (Lesa); and brother, Larry Lowdermilk. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of family, comprising of 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, which collectively represents five generations of Lowdermilks.

Jack's legacy of love, service, and kindness will forever be cherished by all who knew him. He will be missed but remembered fondly for the many ways he touched the lives of others.
