Jack Caldwell

April 11, 1951 — September 10, 2022

Waynesville

Waynesville – Jack Caldwell, 71, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at his home.

Jack was a native of Haywood County and a son to Ned and Josephine Ewart Caldwell.  Jack worked for 47 years as a millwright at Powell Lumber Company and the last several years he worked alongside his sons at Caldwell Trucking.

Dad was a man who lived an entire lifetime with callused hands, a badge of honor he chose to wear to ensure that he provided for his family and those he knew that needed a helping hand. Regardless of how hard the day before had been, he never hesitated to wake up, and make the next day better than the last.  In all my years I never recall my dad complaining about work regardless of how long the day.  He often came home after a long workday to help others, work around the house, feed the animals or work on the garden.  As he aged wisdom, compassion and love for his wife and family they had created together fueled the man who was small in stature but stood firm in his beliefs, immovable like the mountains he so loved.  Dad was a man who loved his family more than any hobby or past time.  He was a man who never backed down from a challenge and never gave up on an unsolved problem.  A man that we knew that only God himself could stop one day so he could get a moments rest.  So… try to take a nap Pappy until we see you again. This was the man that we all came to know and love. You will be missed by all but forever live on in the generations to come.  We all love you dad,

Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Forga Caldwell, of Waynesville; three sons, Jack Lee Caldwell, and his wife, Marzena, James Ned Caldwell, and John Robert Caldwell, and his wife, Emily, all of Waynesville; two sisters JoAnn Mathis, and her husband, Ronald and Linda Mitchell, and her husband, Larry, of Waynesville; two brothers, Ned Caldwell, Jr., and his wife, Donna and Roger Dale Caldwell, and his wife, Glenda, all of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Erik Caldwell, Ally Caldwell, Alex Caldwell, Suzanna Caldwell, daughter of Christina Esmay, and Jacob Caldwell; and one great grandchild, Piper Caldwell, daughter of Britney Caldwell.
