J. Pless

Canton-J.D. Pless, 78, of 119 Park Street, died Friday, October 04, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late J. Marvin and Fannie Burr Penland Pless. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, James H. Pless, William E. "Bill" Pless and Marvin Lewis Pless. He retired from Steelcase Inc. and was a member of First Baptist Church of Canton. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by five nieces, Dawn Shook and Noreen Nelson both of Canton, Elaine Mills, Dale Rogers and Francis Till, all of New Ellenton, SC, four nephews, Butch Pless of Canton, James H. Pless and Roger Pless of New Ellenton, SC and John W. Pless of Phoenix, AZ, three sisters-in-law, Weaverette Pless of Canton, Lou Pless and Christine Pless of New Ellenton, SC.

Graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Piney Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina, Inc., 111 Sneed Drive, Waynesville, NC 28721.

Wells Funeral Homes of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
