Irene Keener

Canton- Irene Ward Keener- age 90 formerly of Plott Farm Circle, died Thursday, October 05, 2006 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was a native of Henderson County but had resided in Haywood County for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late L.J. and Inez Case Ward and the wife of the late Reverend Elmer Keener who died in 1987. Mrs. Keener was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Milner and a brother, J.C. Ward. She was a homemaker and a member of Canton Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Anita Messer and her husband, Howard, of Elizabethton, TN, and Marcia Moran and her husband, John, of Canton; one son, Gary Keener, of Easley, SC; one sister, Mabel Wilson, of Canton; two brothers, Lester and Guy Ward, both of Canton; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2006 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with the Reverend John Moran, Jr., Reverend Tony Bazen and Reverend Elisha Fish officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
