Howard Matteson

Candler, Howard Dennie Matteson, age 79, died on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Canton Christain Convalscent Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, and was the son of the late Roy Gilbert and Mamie Engenia Murray Matteson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Willis who died in 2009; two brothers, and three sisters. He was a United States Army veteran. Howard was a retired Water Plant Superintendent for the Town of Canton with 41 years service. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Jean Sisk Matteson; two sons, Dennie Matteson and David Matteson and his wife, Renea; one daughter, Vivian Poppas and her husband, Steve; son- in-law Michael "Mike" Willis all of Canton; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2010 in the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Donnie Henson officiating. Burial will be private.
