HIRAM L. WYATT

Waynesville-Hiram L. Wyatt, age 88, of 5 Whitener Drive died Monday, December 9, 2002 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James Robert and Rhoda Louisa Conard Wyatt. He was also preceded in death by his former wife of 25 years, Martha Jane Wyatt; and 11 brothers and sisters. He was employed by Powell Lumber Company as a lumberman for 18 years and was of Baptist faith. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was one of the 13 original people drafted from Waynesville for the war. He served in Louisiana, the Philippines, and was a member of the peacekeeping force in Japan. He was also a member of the VFW Post 5202 in Waynesville.

He is survived by his daughters, Martha McKinney, of Clyde and Sandra ''Kathy'' Wyatt, of Waynesville; three sons, Leonard ''Leo'' Wyatt of Asheville, Charles Wyatt of Canton, and Ralph Wyatt of Waynesville; six sisters, Lilly Mae Arrington, Ethel Moody, Ellen Mahaffey, Flora Nations, and Josephine Mintz, all of Waynesville, and Mary Webb of Hickory; three brothers, James, Leroy, and Bill Wyatt, all of Waynesville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2002 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Neil Roland officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at the funeral home.
