Waynesville, Helen Cagle Massie, 83, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at The Homestead.
A native of Salem County, she was the daughter of the late Howard Hughes and Myrtle Brown Cagle. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Parker; a son, Michael Russell; and three brothers, Donald, Charles and Garry Cagle. Helen was a dedicated nurse devoted to her patients, and she always had an eagerness to learn.
Helen is survived by her husband of 38 years, Hugh Massie; two daughters, Kathilynn Russell, of Asheville and Marla Sabins, and her husband, Charles, of Frankfort, Kentucky; three sons, Roland "Butch" Russell, of Waynesville, Hugh J. Massie, and his wife, Joy, of Marietta, Georgia and Danny Massie, and his wife, Leslie, of Canton; two sisters, Susie Vinson and Sherry Burris, and her husband, Keith, all of Waynesville; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, Buddy.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Jake Cagle officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Healthcare Foundation (Hospice in memo line of check to apply funds to Hospice) c/o The Homestead, 127 Sunset Ridge, Clyde, NC 28721.
