Canton – Helen Jane Leatherwood Brookshire, 85, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Memorial Mission Campus.
Helen was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a daughter of the late Lloyd and Mary Jane Price Leatherwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Brookshire, who died in 2002; two daughters, Lynn and Gwen Brookshire; one brother, R.J. Conard; one sister, Ruth Ledford; and a grandson, Ethan Gentry. Helen was lifelong member of Burnette Cove Baptist Church where she served as secretary and treasurer. She served her community well through her church and the Haywood Baptist Association. Helen loved canning fruits and vegetables and sharing with her family and friends.
She is survived by one daughter, Angie Stanford; three sons, David Brookshire (Amanda), Roger Brookshire (Pam), and Carroll Brookshire (Whitney), all of Canton; one step-son, Jackie Brookshire (Starla) of Missouri; one brother, William David Conard (Lydia) of Canton; a sister-in-law, Vivian Conard; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at New Cruso Cemetery with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby and Reverend Scotty Rollins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery. Helen will lie in state at Wells Funeral Home in Canton on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 10:30 until 5:00 p.m. for friends to stop by and sign the register.
Wearing of masks and social distancing will be observed.
