Hazel Taylor Cathey Rogers, age 94, of Queentown Road, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late John and Estie Kinsland Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Glenn Cathey, who died in 1949; her second husband, Paul E. Rogers, who died in 1991; and three step sons, John, Cecil, and Eugene Rogers. Hazel retired from American Enka Corporation and was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church and the Haywood Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She is survived by a son, Eddie Cathey and his wife, Anne, of Monroe; one step son, Houston Rogers and his wife, Joyce, of Blairsville, GA; a step daughter-in-law, Gynelle Rogers; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a special niece, Wanda Davis; and special neighbors, Ed and Norma Warren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Christopher Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. The family wishes to extend their appreciation for the care given to their mother at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. Memorials may be made to the Bon-A-Venture Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 32 Rhoda Street, Canton, NC 28716.
