Canton – Hazel Blanche Franklin Robertson, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Hardy and Louise Franklin In addition to her husband and parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her son, Merrill Robertson, and siblings, Dare F. McClure, and Charles and Cash Franklin. Hazel spent her childhood in the Ironduff community of Haywood County and graduated from Crabtree Ironduff High School as the salutatorian of her class. She earned a degree from Brevard College, and had a 45 year career in the laboratories of Champion International. In 1951 Hazel married George Reuben Robertson of Canton, they were married for 61 years until his death in 2012. Hazel and George enjoyed traveling the world and made a network of friends in many countries. Hazel was a gourmet cook and well known for her meticulous attention to detail in planning parties and events. Her elaborate Christmas decorations and lavish buffets were a high light of the Christmas Season for many people in the community. Hazel was a faithful member of Canton Presbyterian, and served numerous terms on the Canton Beautification Committee. She is survived by two sons, Don Robertson of Canton and David Robertson of Asheville and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Canton Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Esta Jarrett and Pastor Heath Davis officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of Silver Bluff Nursing Home for the cre that was given to Hazel during her time there.
