Obituary

Hazel Wyvetta Johnson Murray went home to be with her LORD and Savior on March 10, 2026 at Solace Hospice. She was the daughter of Harley and Allie Johnson. Hazel was the widow of Gerald Murray and was a deeply devoted wife and mother.

Hazel was employed by the American Enka Company, working in Quality Control. She also served in the worker's union as a shop steward, fearlessly defending those she represented. Her greatest passion was serving and witnessing for her LORD, and caring and loving her family with same zeal. She was an outstanding community servant, helping all she came in contact with. She could be found serving anywhere from teaching those who couldn't read at the jail to counseling on a suicide hotline. She was the epitome of a perfect mother, loving her sons with an unquenchable passion. She loved fishing with Steve, and hiking and exploring the outdoors with Brian. She had a large extended family, she was deeply devoted to them as they were with her.Hazel was a rare person with empathy for all she met.

Hazel will be forever missed and leave her mark on many lives. Heaven is richer today, but we feel her absence until we are reunited.

Hazel is survived by her two sons, Brian and Steve, sister Alice Morgan, nieces Monica and Carmen Morgan, Barbara Derrick, and Christy Mcminn, as well as many other family members.

There will be a remembrance service at Good News Baptist church where she attended.

The family of Hazel Murray has entrusted Wells Funeral Home of Canton with her care.
