Obituary

Harriette Louise Jordan Gudris, 90, passed away in peace on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at her home in Clyde, NC.

During a full life, she touched many with her wisdom, humor, and lifelong commitment to service.

Born on November 5, 1935, in Asheville, NC, Harriette was the daughter of the late Hobart M. Jordan and Verna Lucille Jordan. She was preceded in death by her sister Sarah, her brother Richard, and her sister Elizabeth.

Harriette worked as a Registered Nurse for over 50 years both at St. Joseph’s and Mission Hospitals. An avid supporter of the arts and humanitarian causes, she was especially passionate about helping animals in need.

Though she loved the mountains, her favorite city in the world was New York City, especially Times Square. She was a frequent viewer of cooking shows and British mysteries, and professional tennis, and always was ready to share her honesty and wit to all she knew.

Harriette is survived by her husband John Gudris; her only son, Erik Gudris, and her extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Wells Funeral Home, in Canton, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Harriette’s memory to the Asheville Humane Society, 14 Forever Friend Lane, Asheville, NC 28806.

The care of Ms. Gudris has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Canton
