Obituary

Harold “David” Green, 60, of Haywood County, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

David was born in Haywood County, North Carolina, on June 30, 1966, to his beloved parents, Billy and Mary (Haney) Green. Raised in the mountains he would always call home, David graduated from Tuscola High School and went on to build a life centered around hard work, laughter, and, above everything else, his family.

For 33 years, David worked faithfully for Eaton Corporation, and became known as “The Legend”. Never one to shy away from hard work, he also poured concrete on the side. Providing for the people he loved was simply part of who David was. He worked hard throughout his life to make sure his family was taken care of, and everything he did was rooted in his love for them.

David was the proud father of Bridget, Billy, and Chelsea, and some of his happiest times were those spent alongside his children. He loved to fish and often went with his kids, creating the kind of memories that seemed ordinary at the time but become priceless as the years go by. He loved going to his sister Beth’s house for supper, and they spent many nights sharing stories over her meals together. He enjoyed football games, was a fan of Carolina basketball and the Texas Longhorns, and had an appreciation for old barn wood and wormy chestnut.

Those who knew David, however, will remember just as much about the way he made them feel. He was a jokester through and through, always cutting up and finding a way to make the people around him laugh. His humor was never mean-spirited; it came from a place of love and from the happy-go-lucky nature that made David so unmistakably himself. He found joy in life and loved sharing that joy with the people around him.

And then there was David’s lottery dream. He was convinced that one day his numbers were going to hit, and he already had big plans for what he would do when they did. He would call his children to tell them just how close he had come to winning, always holding onto the belief that the big one was right around the corner.

As deeply as David loved his children, becoming a grandfather brought an entirely new kind of joy into his life. His grandchildren were, quite simply, his world. He adored them, and the love and pride he had for them could never be measured. Of all the things David accomplished during his 60 years, there was no role he treasured more than being there for the family he loved.

David’s unexpected passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot adequately express. Sixty years was far too short for a man who still had jokes to tell, fish to catch, grandchildren to watch grow, and, undoubtedly, another lottery ticket he was certain would be the winner. Yet the measure of David’s life is not found only in the number of years he was given, but in what he filled those years with: 33 years of dedicated work, a lifetime of providing for his family, countless days spent fishing with his children, laughter shared freely, and a love for his grandchildren that knew no bounds.

His family will miss his jokes, his phone calls, his laughter, his happy-go-lucky spirit, and all the little things that made David, David. Though they would have given anything for more time, they are left with something that can never be taken from them—a lifetime of memories and the certainty that they were deeply and completely loved by him.

Harold David Green will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives were fortunate enough to be touched by his.
