Gudger Henry "Red" Clark, 99, of Bethel and of Hamilton, OH died Friday, August 30, 2002 at the Brian Center.
He was born on April 14, 1903 of Shepherds Creek in Swain County to William and Dolly Watkins Clark. He retired from Champion International Paper in Hamilton, OH after 45 years service.
He was preceded in death by his adoring wife of 59 years, Pearl Virginia Garrison Clark, his parents, 5 brothers-Nelson, Ellis, Gordon, David and Grady, two sisters-Irene Clark and Sally Clark Christianson, three nieces, Lenore Christianson, Edith Clark Phillips and Virginia Clark Leatherwood.
He is survived by two daughters, and one son-in-law-Marlene Lois Clark of Hamilton, OH and Linda Sue and Ron Downey of Bethel. One brother-Cordell Clark of Bethel, two sisters-Lena Beck and Gladys Huskey of Asheville, one sister-in-law, Cathielene Huskey Clark of Bryson City and twenty one nieces and nephews, thirty five great, great nieces and nephews.
He was a member of West Side Baptist Church in Hamilton, OH for 76 years and served as Sunday school teacher and as an active deacon for 40 years and an honorary life deacon until his death. He was a member of the Junior Order of the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed the outdoors-gardening, flowers, hunting, fishing and sports.
The family will receive family and friends at Wells Funeral Home, Canton on Sunday, September 1st from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m and at other times they will be at the home of Linda and Ron Downey at 104 Chestnut Wood Drive in Bethel.
Services will be at West Side Baptist Church in Hamilton, OH on Thursday, September 5th at 2:00 p.m.. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be members of the Men's Bible Class.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton.
Memorials may be made to the West Side Baptist Church at 154 Gordon Avenue in Hamilton, OH 45013 for parking lot or Media Library.
