Goldie McDaniels Strickland, born in Kentucky on November 9, 1939, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, in Haywood County, NC.
Goldie’s life was filled with various passions that enriched her and those around her. She loved painting, gardening, quilting and sewing, each reflecting her creativity and dedication to crafting beauty in her everyday life. However, her greatest joy came from her family, with whom she shared countless memories and experiences.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alton “Buck” Strickland, as well as her parents Henry “Lee” and Lillian (Kilburn) McDaniels, and her late daughter Sandra Estes.
She leaves behind her three beloved daughters, Donna Utanski, Robin Palmer, and Jodi Strickland. In addition to her daughters, she played a pivotal role in caring for her two granddaughters, Krista (Estes) Weaver and Leah Estes raising them as her own. Goldie’s love extended to her eight siblings, including her three surviving siblings, Helen Oney, Ray and Leroy McDaniels.
Goldie (Nanny) was a very proud grandmother to ten grandchildren: Jordan and Lauren Utanski, Richard and Taylor Malloy, Casey Palmer, Christopher, Jesse, and Joseph Mills. Her legacy continues through them and her ten great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her life.
Goldie’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and the importance of family. Her warmth and nurturing presence will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life/Service will happen at a later time.
The care of Mrs. Strickland has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville
