Ginger Tilley

Canton – Ginger Sutton Tilley, 62, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023, at Haywood Regional Medical Center after a valiant fight with cancer.

Ginger was born in South Carolina but raised in Haywood County and was a daughter of the late James and Ruth Ethel Hyde Sutton.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Brent Tilley; sister, Annita Butler; and a brother-in-law, Craig Butler.  Ginger was a licensed cosmetologist and was mentored under Violet Broyles at Pisgah High School.  Ginger was gentle hearted, always looking out for others, patient, strong willed and not a quitter.  She was a devoted faithful Christian and was an inspiration to others.  Ginger always fought for the underdog, was a giver in all ways, selfless, and had a positive mindset.  She enjoyed watching and feeding birds outside of her house.  Ginger loved her grandchildren, family, and cherished her time with them especially camping at the beach and lake.

She is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart of 42 years, Tony Tilley; daughter, Heather Lawrence (Derek) of Canton; daughter-in-law, Jessica Tilley of Strong, Maine; two sisters, Lynn Sutton Heatherly (Ed) of Tryon and Donna Sutton Miller (Dale) of Winder, Georgia; five grandchildren, Taryn Williams, Corbin Tilley, Savannah, Bristol and Maggie Lawrence; numerous special nieces, nephews, and close friends; and her beloved dog, Shey.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Tim McConnell officiating.  Burial will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

The care of Mrs. Tilley has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
