George Elliot Powell, 81, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born in Buncombe County, NC, on February 19, 1945. 

A funeral service with Military Honors will be held in honor of George's life at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville, NC, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in George's memory to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC, 28731.

The care of Mr. Powell has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
