Geroge Elliot Powell, 81, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Buncombe County, NC, on February 19, 1945.  A funeral service will be held in honor of George's life at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville, NC, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM.  Visitation with the family will be held one-hour prior to the service.  Military honors will be presented at 2:00 PM when the service begins.  A private burial will be held at a later date.
