Waynesville, George Jones Medford, 83, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on July 10, 2023, at the Charles George V.A. Medical Center, Valor Hospice Center. He was born on January 18, 1940, and leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
George dedicated over 30 years of his life to Champion Papermill, where he worked as a chemical unloader. His commitment and hard work earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. George approached his work with unwavering dedication and a strong sense of responsibility. However, George's true joy lay in the connections he formed with those around him. Known for his warm personality and compassionate nature, George always made an effort to touch the lives of others. One memory that will forever be cherished is his habit of giving hugs to everyone in the kitchen before leaving the restaurant.
Sports were an important part of George's life, and he was an avid fan of the Tuscola Mountaineers. He could often be found supporting his favorite team or engaging in lively discussions about sports with friends and family. Kornerstone Kafe and Coffee Cup Cafe were places where George found solace and comfort, not only enjoying delicious food but also sharing precious moments of fellowship. George was also a man of faith and a devoted member of Beulah Baptist Church for many years. His dedication to his church community was unwavering, finding strength in his faith even during difficult times.
In addition to his professional accomplishments and community involvement, George proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. His bravery and sacrifice demonstrated his commitment to serving others and protecting our nation.
He will be deeply missed by his surviving family members: his daughter Kim Owen and her husband Jeff of Canton, NC; his sons Mike Medford of Waynesville, NC; Jeff Medford and his wife Kim of Clyde, NC; and four grandchildren, Joey Marcus, Kalyn Medford, Brayden Medford, and Kristian Hawkins. Their memories of George will be a source of comfort and strength in the days to come. George is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Linda Medford, who passed away in 2011. He was also preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Barry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites provided by the U.S. Army Guard.
