George Christopher

Waynesville, George Douglas Christopher, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Haywood County he was the son of the late Frank Douglas and Edna Davis Christopher. Doug was a charter member of Francis Cove United Methodist Church. He started his career in produce in 1968, establishing Doug's Produce in Waynesville and later expanding that operation to Asheville. In 1986, Doug partnered with his brother Eugene to form Christopher Farms. Together they catered to the wholesale and retail outlets throughout Western North Carolina. Doug never met a stranger and many of his most cherished times in life were spent amongst his family and friends. Throughout life Doug enjoyed fly-fishing in the beautiful mountain streams and watching NASCAR.

Doug is survived by his wife of 16 years, Eddes Christopher; daughter, Sherri Christopher Green, and her husband, Johnny Andrew Green, Jr. of Waynesville; son Greg Christopher, and his wife, Sherri, of Clyde; step-son, Todd Grasty, and his wife, Tonya, of Waynesville; brother, Eugene Christopher, and his wife, Joyce, of Waynesville; nine grandchildren, Emily Nagle, and her husband, Tobias, Chad and Abigail Christopher, James, Luke and Logan Green, John Carl Spiron, Caylie Bradley and Laken Burris; four great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Gene Christopher.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Timothy McConnell and Reverend Melissa Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
