Canton – Ray Eugene “Gene” Scott, age 64, died on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at his residence.
He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late Ray and Louise Carver Scott. He was a 1975 graduate of Pisgah High School. Gene began his career at the paper mill in 1980. Among many positions in the mill Gene served as firefighter for 30 years. Gene also served as a firefighter for Center Pigeon Volunteer Fire Department and North Canton Volunteer Fire Department as well as participating in search and rescue teams.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Carla Gray Scott; a daughter, Keisha LaRue Scott Lanning (Jonathan) of Canton; two sons, Joshua David Scott (Brooke) of Canton and Matt Levi Rodgers (Courtney) of Copperas Cove, Texas; two brothers; Dewayne Scott (Cheryl) of Canton and Gerald Scott (Susan) of Clyde; an honorary brother; Ray Inman, of Canton; six grandchildren, Heidi, Nathan, Lydia, Brandan, E. J. and Mason.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Mountain View Church of God with the Reverend Mike Hicks officiating. The family receive friends following the service.
