Canton – Gene Perry Cole, 91, passed away on Friday January 18, 2019 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Ralph and Nell Parker Cole. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Marshall Cole and Dee Cole; and two sisters, Dean Watts and Vera Warren. Gene was a United States Navy Veteran and retired from Champion International with 43 years of service. Gene was a dedicated member of Rocky Face Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jean Scott Cole; a son, Perry Lynn Cole of Canton; a daughter, Donna Cole Heatherly and husband, Wayne, of Rogersville, Alabama; three brothers, Dan Cole and wife, Norma, Carroll Cole and Bob Cole and wife, Theresa, all of Canton; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Rocky Face Baptist Church with the Reverend Donnie Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
