Obituary

Gary Lynn Reece, 71, of Waynesville, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026.

Born in Medina County, Ohio, in 1954, Gary was the son of Roe Compton Reece and Wilma J. Phillips Reece. In 1958, he moved with his family to Waynesville, where he was raised and later graduated from Tuscola High School with the Class of 1973.

Throughout his career, Gary traveled, serving as a General Manager for numerous auto dealerships and helping improve their operations. He was highly respected in his profession and became a mentor to many. Following the loss of his brother Wade, Gary retired in 2007 to spend more time with his family.

Gary loved traveling out West with his best friend, Dale Henry, his late brother Larry Reece, and his beloved dog, Cooper. Closer to home, he enjoyed camping in the Great Smoky Mountains, driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and exploring backroads he had never traveled before. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his grandson, Tanner Moody, whom he affectionately considered his “best little buddy.”

A devoted family man, Gary instilled in his daughters and grandchildren the belief that family should always come first. His love, guidance, and example will continue to influence those who knew him.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Roe C. Reece and Wilma J. Phillips Reece; and his brothers, Jesse Charles “JC” Reece, Wade L. Reece, and Larry W. Reece.

He is survived by his daughters, Nichole Moody (Jeremy) and their children, Tanner, Colton, and Avery; and Coty Reece (Alex) and their daughter, Charlotte. He is also survived by his nephews, Chris Reece (Carla) and their children, Jessie (Reid), Tucker, and Ben; Patrick Reece (Lynn) and their children, Brittany and Dylan; his former wife, Revonda Reece; his sister-in-law, Beth Robinson Reece; as well as extended family members and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall, Gary’s favorite season.

“Family always comes first.” Those who loved Gary will remember him for his adventurous spirit, his devotion to family, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
