Gary Jerome Jackson, born on October 7, 1942, in Haywood County, North Carolina, peacefully passed away at his home on September 17, 2024.
Gary proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He had a distinguished military career, retiring after 28 years of service as a Senior Listed Advisor for a three-star General. In this capacity, he oversaw over 3,500 enlisted soldiers around the world. His dedication and commitment to his fellow soldiers left a profound impact on many lives. He was a devoted member of the Clyde First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and dedicated many years to overseeing their audio-visual system and assisting with the church’s preschool program. Gary’s kindness and welcoming nature made him a cherished presence in his community.
Outside of his professional and service commitments, Gary had a passion for gardening, which allowed him to connect with nature and share his love of nurturing life. He found joy in spending time outdoors, cultivating his plants and flowers, reflecting the care and patience he demonstrated throughout his life.
Gary is survived by his son, Eric S. Jackson (Michelle), of Apex, North Carolina; his sister, Mary Ann Morgan (Gary), of Clyde; his brothers, Carl Jackson (Betty), of Clyde, and Steve Jackson, of Waynesville; his grandson, Isaac Jackson; his granddaughter, Ansley Jackson; along with several beloved nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Lee and Edwina Leatherwood Jackson; his beloved wife, Barbara Stone Jackson, who passed away in 2017; his sister, Glenda Matthews; and his brother, Earl Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in the Sanctuary of Clyde First Baptist Church with Reverend Byron Burnette officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Military rites will be rendered following the service at the church.
