Canton - Gail Ann Green, 79, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018 at John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Dewey Silas and Myrtle McMahan Green. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Dale Green and Ginger Virginia Reid. Gail was a 1956 graduate of Canton High School. Her professional career began on July 1, 1959, at Midway Medical Center, where she worked for 59 years. Having served patients along with Dr. Ernest Stines, Gail worked with him for 34 of those years. She was a member of West Canton Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Barbara Ross and husband, Jule, of Lake Junaluska, Mary Jo Sharp and husband, Mike, of Greenville, Tennessee, and Patricia Caldwell and husband, Jerry, of Asheville; and numerous nieces and nephews, Kay Prowler (Chuck), Kathy Szendrei (Eric), Rebecca McFadden (Doug), Sara Galvin (Mark), Danny Reid, Tammy Mulkey (Scott), Jeannine McClure, Libby Sharp, Jason and Kelly Caldwell; and great nieces and nephews, Rebecca Pearl Nester, Ross Szendrei, Charlie and Will McFadden, Holly and Mariah Reid, Christopher Sharp, Michael, Jonathan, and Nathaniel Mathis, Dawson Talent and Avery Caldwell.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jonathan Blaylock officiating and Jason Caldwell, Kelly Caldwell, and Betty Jones speaking. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
