Waynesville, Frances Josephine Rogers Williams, 96, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Smoky Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation.
A native of Haywood County, Frances was born on March 4, 1927 to the late Edward Roy and Ollie Mae Sprinkle Rogers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Steve, Williams, Sr. who died in 1990; two sisters, Betty Seay and Mary Deane Davis; three brothers, Reeves, David and Max Rogers. Frances worked for the Haywood County Local Government for 35 years in the Tax Assessment Office. She became Haywood County’s first Tax Supervisor prior to her retirement. She was an active member of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Bishop Tullis Sunday School Class and UM Women’s Link #2. Frances was an avid fan of college basketball and the UNC Tar Heels.
Surviving is her daughter, Betty Pressley, of Cullowhee; son, Steve Williams, and his wife, Diane, of Waynesville. Grandchildren include Michael Pressley (Michelle), Stephanie Tarbet (Travis) and Alison Arnold (Nick); six great-grandchildren, Kelly Shapiro (Dakota), Jacob Pressley, Ben and Caroline Tarbet, Kenan and Sloan Arnold. She is survived by one sister, Jean Walker (Jack), of Waynesville and many loving nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the church in the vestibule.
