Obituary

Flora Hyatt Glavich, 96, passed away on April 14, 2026, at her daughters’ home. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Rufus and May Rogers Hyatt; her loving husband Edward Glavich; her sisters Helena Allen, Ina Frady, Bernice Carter, Jincie Ferguson, and Georgia Williams; and her brothers Alna and Allen Hyatt.

Flora was a devoted homemaker who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed sewing, tending her garden, and preparing delicious meals and desserts that brought her family together. Her nurturing spirit and dedication to her home were hallmarks of her character, providing a comforting and loving environment for those around her.

Her remarkable life was marked by both dedication and recognition. In 1948, Flora was honored with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) award for good citizenship, a testament to her commitment to her community and the values she upheld throughout her life. She treasured working alongside her beloved husband, Edward Glavich, on various projects, sharing a partnership built on mutual respect and collaboration until his passing in 2003.

Flora's family was central to her life and happiness. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Womack (Dan); her sons, David Glavich (Debbie) and Timothy Glavich (Angie); her grandchildren, Hannah Xavier (Alex), Ben Womack (Jessica Blackmon), Jonathan Glavich (McKinzy), and Cameron Glavich; as well as her great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Colten Xavier. Their love and support were a constant source of comfort to her, and she remained a guiding presence in their lives.

A graveside service to honor Flora’s memory will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Hospice, 13 Haywood Office Park, Suite 107, Waynesville, NC 28785.

Flora Hyatt Glavich’s legacy is one of kindness, steadfast faith, and unyielding dedication to her family and community. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
