"Scottish Historian"
Waynesville, Flora MacDonald Gammon, 71, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at her home.
Flora was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, May 17, 1946. She was the daughter of the late Reverend and Mrs. Richard R. Gammon, in addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Dall. She graduated from East Carolina University School of Nursing and was the operating room supervisor at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Flora was an elder and choir member at First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville.
After leaving nursing, she began working with the South Carolina Arts Commission as Artist in Residence throughout the schools of South Carolina and the Road Scholars program. Flora was Director of Music at Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in Linville, North Carolina. She continued to teach Scottish history, music and dance.
In 2008 she received The Exceptional Celtic Women's Award. Flora was on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Folkmoot USA. She was a member of the Southern Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem. Flora was awarded the Order's Meritorious Service Medal in 2012.
Flora was all things Scottish and encouraged everyone to trace their roots. She inherited an interest in her Scottish heritage at an early age.
Flora is survived by her uncle, Donald F. MacDonald, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; aunt, Ingrid MacDonald, of Lakeland, Florida; ten stepdaughters, Allison Zimmerman, Stacy Heck, Rhiannon Bushue, Teresa Margrey (Allen), Anita Nichols (Bill), Robin Bake (Jim), Penny Hubert, Margaret Dall, Marilyn Howe (Charlie), Jackie Miler (Victor); two stepsons, J. Kevin Dall (Billie) and Craig Dall, and his wife, Jennifer, of Clyde, North Carolina; cousin, Jackie Hendrix, and her husband, Ron, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and numerous other cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville with Pastor Holly Davis and Pastor John Lindsey officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Haywood County, The Care Angels of Waynesville, her loving neighbor Pat Pace and Pat's sister-in-law, Marilyn Pace for their care and compassion during Flora's last few weeks.
