Canton - Eva Jane Worley Ashe, 87, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Winnie Williamson Worley. Eva Jane was employed by Champion International in the accounting department and was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was very active in Beaverdam Community affairs. Eva Jane wrote for the Mountaineer as a columnist featuring current events for the Beaverdam Community. She was instrumental in diverting a nuclear waste facility from being established in Beaverdam. Eva Jane was a lifelong member of Beaverdam United Methodist Church where she held numerous positions and also served as a leader in 4-H.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, David Ashe; one daughter, Cherie Ratcliffe and husband, David, of Winston-Salem; and one grandson, Corbin Ratcliffe.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Beaverdam United Methodist Church with the Reverend Melissa Lowe and Reverend David W. Childers officiating. Burial will follow at Beaverdam Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Wells Funeral Home in Canton.
