Eunice Lee Tingle

August 19, 1939 — August 6, 2025

Greenville

Eunice Lee Tingle, avid mystery reader, dog lover, master of plastic flower décor, and Pinot Grigio enthusiast, passed away on August sixth, just a few days shy of her eighty-sixth birthday. This did not come as a surprise to her family, as Eunice always hated celebrating her own birthday.

To those close to her, Eunice was known for her overcooked pasta, pre-made margaritas, quick wit, frequent eye rolls, and a seemingly bottomless reservoir of love and affection for her family.

Eunice was married to Fred Tingle, who passed away in 2005, for thirty-four years. Together, the couple created what became Springdale Country Club in Cruso, North Carolina. Eunice managed the club for fifty years, and she wouldn’t hesitate to tell you Springdale was both a blessing and a curse. She was there almost every single day and kept the course going through good times and bad. Even in her late seventies, you could find her hosing down golf carts or pulling weeds out of the flower beds.

One of Eunice’s great loves was travel, especially if the mode of transportation was a Disney cruise ship. During her later years, Eunice embarked on fifteen Disney cruises with various members of her family. She wasn’t interested in the excursions or the onboard activities. She was happiest sitting alone on the verandah of her stateroom, mystery novel in one hand, plastic cup of white wine in the other, the blue waters of the Caribbean stretching to the horizon. That was her idea of heaven.

In her final years, Eunice struggled with dementia, a condition she approached with her usual aplomb. “It’s not too bad,” she once said. “I get to learn wonderful new things every day.”

Bon voyage, Eunice.
