Ethel Mcdonald

Ethel Lenora Williams McDonald, beautiful wife and lifelong partner of the late Jepthey Hugh McDonald, was blessed into this world on October 8, 1915, and departed us on October 1, 2011. She was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was one of fourteen children born to the late Augustus and Ellen Joyce Williams. She was preceded in death by her thirteen siblings; her husband, Hugh McDonald; and son, Robert. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Affectionately known as "mamaw" by her grandchildren, Ethel was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. We were blessed with her presence on this earth for almost 96 wonderful years. She will be missed and cherished by all of us for the unending love and support that she provided to her family friends, church, and community. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jeanne McClure and her husband, Dale, of King George, VA; granddaughter, Suzanne Carter and husband, Michael, grandson, Rob McDonald and wife, Julia, of Candler; and three great-grandchildren, Kelsea Carter, Peyton and Gavin McDonald of Candler; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3, 2011, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jay W. Bissett and Mr. Jim Odum officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rob McDonald, Michael Carter, Dale McClure, Mack King, Rex Wilson, and Rick Lowe. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to thank all the people who caringly helped Ethel through her last years and made it possible for her to enjoy life at home as long as possible. Special thanks to The Daily Bread staff of Hominy Baptist Church and the caring staff at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 2312 Smoky Park Highway, Candler, NC 28715 or to Hominy Baptist Church's Daily Bread Program, 135 Candler School Road, Candler, NC 28715.
