Ervin O'dell Clark, age 85, of Academy Street died Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. A native of Franklin, NC, he was the son of the late Mark and Dora Grant Clark. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Irene Clark who died in 1989; a grandson, Barry Goodwin; two brothers; and a sister. He retired from American Enka with 38 years of service. He was a member of Canton Free Will Baptist Church. Ervin thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with the disabled veterans and helping to raise funds for the DAV. He also loved spending time with his children eating out at Duvall's and Sherrill's. He was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II where he was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He is survived by two sons, Gary D. Clark of Fines Creek and Timothy D. Clark of Canton; three daughters, Celia "Darlene" Metcalf of Canton, Sherry E. Cooke and her husband, Sam M., of Waynesville, and Terry G. Clark of Canton; four grandchildren, Amity Hardy, Brian Keith, and Nathan and Josh Clark; and six great-grandchildren, Makayla Cooke, Jordan Hardy, Breanna, Brooklyn, and Blaze Keith, and Priscilla Clark. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Mitch Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
