Ernest Stamey

Waynesville-Ernest "Sonny" Stamey, age 74, of Dolan Road, died on Sunday, June 17, 2007 at his residence. A native and life-long resident of Haywood County, he was the husband of the late Juanita Gilland Stamey, who died in 2003. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Robert Neal Chapman and his parents, Walter and Curly Curtis Stamey. He retired from Enka Corporation where he worked as a turbine operator. He was also a self-employed wallpaper hanger and attended Narrow Road Free Will Methodist Church. He is survived by one daughter, Celenda Chapman, of Waynesville; one stepson, John Chapman and his wife, Grace, of Canton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as many friends. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the First Freewill Methodist Church.
