Canton – Era Lela Summey Pless, 72, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at her son’s residence in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Lela was a native of Haywood County and a daughter of the late Charles James and Margie Novella Dunbar Summey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Pless, who died in 2006. Lela worked for sixteen years at Chaircraft Furniture and was a member of Fairmont Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, canning, yard work and going to the Picking in the Park in Canton.
She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Samuel David and Lori Pless of Spartanburg, Michael Joe Pless of Bethlehem and Steven and Angie Pless of Canton; two sisters, Margie Ann Gunter of Clyde and Nancy Kathy Summey of Waynesville; one brother, James Summey and wife, Denise, of Canton; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2020 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Steven Pressley officiating. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
