Emma Laney

Candler- Emma Dee Laney, age 82, of Laney Drive, died Friday, January 15, 2010 at Mission Hospitals, Mission Campus. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late George Wesley and Mattie Kerley Henson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Laney; a sister, Margaret Wright, and two brothers, James and Jasper Henson. Emma enjoyed camping at Jack Rabbit and Deep Creek with her husband, Oscar. She was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James "Oscar" Laney; two sons, Gary Laney and his wife, Chris, and John Laney and his wife, Debbie, all of Candler; one daughter, Donna Pearson and her husband, Tim, of Connelly Springs, NC; daughter in law, Judy Laney, of Candler; one brother, Roy Lee Henson, of Candler; six grandchildren, Tony, Mark, Patrick and Jason Laney, Stacy Brown and Melanie Pearson and eight great grandchildren, Bennett, Elizabeth, Cyndel, Sadie, Mackenzie and Averie Laney; and Madisyn and Hunter Brown. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday January 17, 2010 at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. At other times the family will be at the residence of Oscar Laney.
