Waynesville, Emma Jo Gibson, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family.
A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Jethro Gibson and Helen Goodson Gibson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Emma retired after 36 years with American Enka as a rewinder. A devout Baptist, she enjoyed mastering a challenging crossword puzzle. One of her most favorite activities was picnics with her family and grandchildren making special memories.
Emma is survived by two daughters, Karen Warren and Sharon Downs (Horace); sisters, Charlotte Baldwin and Jackie Warren; three grandsons, Jason Warren (Brittany), Adam Warren (Makenzie), and Eric Downs (Allison); nine great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Avery, and Ashlynn Downs; Jade, Alexis, Riley, Kiptynn, and Emory Warren; and Alorah Lamb;; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Stamey officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The care of Miss Gibson has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
