Elzy Caldwell, Jr.

ELZY F. CALDWELL, JR. Waynesville-Elzy Forest Caldwell, Jr., age 68, of 45 Music Way, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Elzy Caldwell, Sr. and Lottie Caldwell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Dills. He was employed by American Enka Corporation for 20 years before retiring in 1977. He then came out of retirement and was a self-employed truck driver until 1994. Elzy maintained and performed in a gospel music group for 33 years. Whether at home or in a church setting, Elzy enjoyed the love and fellowship of his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Florence Lanning Caldwell; two sons, Ricky Caldwell and Darrell Caldwell and his wife, Judy, both of Waynesville; one daughter, June Rhinehart and her husband, Donald, also of Waynesville; and four grandchildren, Jessica, Levi, Justin, and Darrell Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2005 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Alan Davis and Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.
