Elsie Cogburn

Elsie Geneva Ledford Cogburn, age 87, died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Brian Center of Waynesville. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Wesley Hilery and Lula Grooms Ledford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Cogburn, Jr., who died in 1984; a son, David Cogburn; a granddaughter, Amber Nicole Cogburn; a sister, Mamie Lee; and three brothers, Walter, Thelmore and Olson Ledford. She is survived by two sons, George Hillery and Donald Wayne Cogburn, all of Clyde; and one daughter, Barbara Wilson of Indian Land, SC; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Grandsons and great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
