Waynesville, Else S. "Puddin” Leigh, 72, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019 at CarePartners Solace Center.
A native of Jackson County, he was a son of the late Lester and Stella Worley Lay. In addition to his parents, Puddin was preceded in death by his brother, Willus Lay and four sisters, Donna Leigh, Ida Jean Frazier, Bessie Harris, and Barbara Ann Cason. He attended and graduated from Reynolds High School in Canton where he played football for the Reynolds Tigers. Puddin was employed for 27 years at Champion Paper in Canton in the Maintenance Department. He loved to go to church at Mt. Olive Baptist, enjoyed fishing, and loved to spend time with his family and friends at home.
Puddin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lula Martin Leigh; two daughters, Kristy Jeanette Frierson, and her husband, Darryl, of Charlotte and Carla Evette Robinson of Fort Meade, Maryland; one son, Courtney Grant Leigh, and his wife, Stacey, of Charlotte; two sisters, Shirley Leigh Jackson, and her husband, Clyde, and Estella Catherine McKinney both of Clyde; two brothers, William M. Leigh, and his wife, Alice, of Columbus, Ohio and Geary Eugene Leigh of Augusta, Georgia; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; honorable friends, Jonas Forney and Von Gibbs, and a host of cousins and many close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Walter Bryson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A repast will be held at the Wells Events & Reception Center in Waynesville following the funeral services.
The care of Mr. Leigh has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
