Ellen Smith

Waynesville-Ellen Faye Ruff Smith, age 60, of 262 Depot Street, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Chester and Dorothy Mae Lee Smith. She was also preceded in death by a twin sister, Ellie Kay Ruff, and two brothers, Ray Chester Ruff and Otis Arthur Ruff. She was a former employee of Roses of Waynesville, and was the manager of The Pantry. She enjoyed cooking and sewing.

She is survived by her companion, Bob Wood, of Waynesville; a daughter, Barbara Luellen Riley and her husband Richard of Lenoir, NC; two sons, Joseph Lee Smith, and his wife, Peggy, of Franklin, and Roger Dale Smith and his wife, Kim, of Grover, NC; three sisters, Ola Locust and her husband, Rufus, of Cherokee, Betty Mills and Edna Fletcher and her husband, Steve, both of Shelby, NC; two brothers, Eddie Ruff and his wife, Lillie Mae, of Kings Mountain, NC and James Ruff and his wife, Sharon, of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Goose Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2003 until service time Saturday at the church. The body will be placed in the church at 5:00 p.m. Friday. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
