Elizabeth (Bette) Metzkier

Waynesville – On Tuesday, December 13th. 2022, Elizabeth (Bette) Metzkier, 95, crossed over and went to be with the Lord. She will be honored and remembered by her daughters: Diane Perenich from Florida and Chriss Erickson from California. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Metzkier; her eldest daughter, Cammie Metzkier; and her son, David Metzkier of Waynesville.

She was born in New York where she met and married her husband, Richard. They had four children and raised them in Florida. When they retired, they built their dream home on Little Mountain in Waynesville, NC.

Elizabeth had a full life: she volunteered for an organization who provides services for the intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals in Florida and served as a leader for a Girl Scout troop for the disabled. She also volunteered for the Haywood Spay/Neuter Organization in Waynesville. She cared for and adopted several cats from the shelter.

She was a strong woman who triumphed over her personal struggles which translated into helping others with their own. She enjoyed writing and had a creative talent for poetry. She was also gifted musically. She played piano and loved to sing right up to the end.

With a heavy heart, it is comforting to know that Elizabeth is in God’s hands and at peace. During this period of mourning, it is comforting to read bible verses and lean into their timeless wisdom because it offers hope, peace and helps with the healing process in difficult times we all face in life.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center and to the doctors and nurses of the Haywood Regional Medical Center for their care and compassion.

The care of Mrs. Metzkier has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
