Waynesville, Glennie Elease Messer, 86, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at her residence.
A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Burr Leatherwood Messer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. She had a long and successful career as a Registered Nurse. Elease was the office nurse for Dr. Jim Stringfield and later retired from Haywood Regional Medical Center. Following her retirement, she taught at Haywood Community College. She was a Christian lady and lived her faith every day. Elease was a member of the Gideons International Auxiliary for 60 years.
Elease is survived by her husband of 67 years, Daniel Messer; two daughters, Dr. Danna Gibson (Gary), and Joy Rathbone (Keith); seven grandchildren, Jonathan Gibson (Kelley), Dr. Blayke Anerin (Chip), Cassie Higgins (Alex), Joseph Gibson, Amanda Henderson (Andrew), Kaleb Rathbone (Monica), and Rachel Trantham (Tyler); 15 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kourtney, Aiden, Julia, Eli, Shep, Jacob, Jonathan, Mason, Grant, Reid, Joe, Abigail, Hawk, and Jett.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, June 23, 2023, in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
